One of my favorite things about EARTHQUAKE is the vehicle driven by Stewart Graff. The script referred to it as "...a customized four-wheel-drive vehicle, a sort of cross between a dune buggy and a small elegant camper..." The vehicle itself was a 1973 K 5 Chevy Blazer. Art director Fred Tuch based it on a stock chasis that was jazzed up at a cost of $5,000 ($21,000 today!!) with a targa top, custom grill & a car phone (which I assume was just a prop) In the film, Graff tells Lew that it has a customized transmission with 8 forward speeds and 3 for reverse. What became of this truck after filming ended is a mystery. Some claims to ownership have been disputed. |
