THE "LONGER" TV VERSION
Deleted Scenes & Extensions
Was Corry not supposed to make it out of Wilson Plaza??
The start of the movie was a lot longer. The film begins with a narration about the San Andreas fault. This was in the original script. It was shown in the TV version. The scene shows more of Graff jogging, and then Remy argues more with Graff as he works out. After the fake suicide, Dr Vance shows up, argues with the ambulance crew, then has a confrontation with the Graffs.
There was more to Slade leaving the station.
Rosa leaves the market.
Rosa was shown waiting for a bus, and then getting an offer from a guy to give her a lift. The scene ended up being used in the TV version.
These are some of the scenes that were actually filmed and cut from the theatrical version of EARTHQUAKE. These are NOT to be confused with what was filmed 2 years later to be added into the network version.
The Graffs final confrontation was longer. Also left out was a scene of a lumberyard falling apart.
The infamous elevator scene was severely altered. Originally, the occupants were plastered to the ceiling, then dropped to the floor..that was too much, so they opted to cover up a freeze frame of the people on the floor with the cartoon blood. What we have here is the people with their heads stuck in the ceiling, and then laying dead on the floor. Maybe this would have meant an "R" rating, so it was toned down?
Walter Russell and Dr. Stockle survive!!
The last scene has Denise asking Lew about Graff.
