THE TV VERSION
When "Earthquake" was first shown on television, almost 45 minutes of footage was used to pad-out the movie to make it a 2-night "big" event. Only one, possibly 2 shots from the original film were used. To make up the difference, Universal filmed new footage, adding a subplot about newlyweds on a plane bound for L.A. They also added to the Jody/Rosa storyline with new footage shot at Rosas apartment. A short scene of Jody watching a fire was filmed as well.
