Based on the novel "Event 1000" Gray Lady Down tells the story of the nuclear sub, Neptune, homeward bound to the Groton, Ct Naval Base. The sub is under the command of Captain Paul Blanchard (Charlton Heston) The sub surfaces 60 miles off the coast in a fog. Suddenly a freighter rams the sub, sending it 1450 to the bottom, where it rests precariously on a ledge. 52 men are lost in the sinking. Rescue operations begin immediately under the supervision of Captain Bennett (Stacey Keach) The movie received major help from the Search & Rescue teams of the Navy, and shows them at there best. The movie wasnt a box office hit, but has an intriguing premise. Look for a pre-Superman Christopher Reeve. |
