A Jules Verne-ish tale from the Disney Studios. Based on the novel "The Lost Ones" by Ian Cameron. In 1907, Sir Anthony Ross embarks on a search to find his son,Donald, lost somewhere in the Artic wasteland. Along for the expedition is Professor John Ivarsson, an expert on early Norse life. Ross believes his son went looking for the fabled "Graveyard of the Whales". Flying into the artic area in the airship Hyperion, the two men and a friend of Donalds, are thrown out of the ship during a storm. The men discover a lost Viking village, and Donald. The men are thought of as intruders and are sentenced to death. Donalds girlfriend rescues them, and the group escapes into the volcanic mountains towards the graveyard, with the Viking warriors chaseing them.... A very good early 70's offering from Disney. Decent special effects and a great score by Maurice Jarre. Released in 1975, and nominated for an Oscar for its art direction. |
