A very under-appreciated film! A high tension movie about a bomber trying to extort a huge ransom from the British government. Juggernaut was filmed at sea on the TSS/CTC Maxim Gorky. For 16 days the ship was purposely steered into stormy seas covering an area of 2,000 miles. Onboard was a working ships crew of 400, 300 extras,75 cast and crew and 1,200 "passengers" obtained from a newspaper ad. The last 4 days they anchored in the English Channel, to film the scenes of the bomb disposal team coming aboard. For the scene they utilized a half dozen stuntmen and a fleet of support vessels. The movie was Directed by Richard Lester and starred Richard Harris and Omar Sharif. Released September 25th, 1974. |
