With great special effects by George Pal (War Of The Worlds) and good performances by Charlton Heston and Eleanor Parker. Plantation owner Christopher Leiningen (Heston) sends for a mail order bride. When Joanna (Parker) arrives, things get off to a bad start. Soon, Joanna decides to leave but learns that an army of ants "Marabunda" will soon take over the plantation. Trying to stop them, the bridges are blown up, river beds are flooded, and brush is set afire. Joanna sees a side to her gruff, insensitive husband she hadn't know, and decides to stay and assist her husband until the very end. The last ditch effort to stop the billions of marching ants is to blow up the nearby dam, possibly killing everyone...... |
