NOAHS ARK
(1929)
One of the early talkies, this was one of the first tellings of "The Great Flood". Produced by Darryl F. Zanuck and directed by Michael Curtiz. Cameraman Hal Mohr quit when it was decided to dump six hundred thousand gallons of water on the extras who were so hungry for work, they didnt mind the danger. The idea was to out-do Cecil B. DeMille's recent hit "Ben Hur", at any cost. Reports say that at least 3 people died in the flood scenes. Released twice in June and July, 1929: first in a sound version, then in a silent version. Originally released at 135 minutes, it was cut to 75 minutes for a 1957 re-release.
