THE DANCE
Ah, the infamous "Prom Night Dance". Almost every review ever done on this film mentions this 3 minute bit of business. People have done it at their proms, disc jockeys in L.A. play it on disco nights, people have Prom Night showings at their homes and re-enact this little jig. In the film, to show Queen-Bitch Wendy "what they can do", Kim and Nick put on a show-stopping strut that has been commented and speculated on for years. Some call it a cheesy and shameless rip-off of "Saturday Night Fever", some wonder why they decided to put a musical production number in the middle of a slice-and-dice horror movie.
There could have been 2 dance numbers, as the scene immediately  following the van explosion has (according to the script) "Kim and Nick lead a line of dancers in a wild routine, strutting across the room in time to the flickering lights on the floor." Also there was going to be a scene of Kim taking pity on Davy, after Wendy shits on him, and whisking him onto the dance floor. It would seem they filmed one long dance, planning to split it into 2 scenes, but figured that they would just have one huge number before the killings start.
Jamie Lee Curtis (Kim) was an avid dancer and loved doing the scene. Casey Stevens (Nick) had never danced in his life, but lied to the producers to land the role. He quickly signed up for dance lessons in L.A. before heading to Toronto to film. He was an avid student of Yoga, and had no problems maneuvering around the dance floor.
There were 250 extras employed to participate in this famous scene.
No choreographer has ever stepped forward to claim working on "Prom Night"
