| Margaret Tobin Browns illustrious life was brought first to the stage in a 1960 musical starring Tammy Grimes. MGM released their version, starring Debbie Reynolds in 1964. The movie starts with baby Margaret going down the river in a basket, and ends soon after her (fictional) reunion with her estranged husband, J.J. In real life she lived alone in Newport, Rhode Island before moving into a hotel for women to spend her final days.
