The first of 3 sequals (and many rip-offs) to the 1970 smash hit "Airport". A 747 is hit mid-air by a small private plane, flown by Dana Andrews. With the whole cockpit crew dead or severly injured, head stewardess, Nancy Pryor takes the controls. Heading up the all star cast is Charlton Heston as Nancys boyfriend who has to talk her through flying a 747. The movie's screenplay is not its strong suit, but what it lacks in scripting, it makes up for in its dazzling cinematography. Renting a real 747 (At $ 52,000 a day) and flying it over the Heber Valley, Utah the scenes of the mid-air transfer are great. The film cost $4,000,000 and took in over $25,000,000. The movie has gotten a bad rep over the years, but does offer alot to the viewer. The small plane used by Dana Andrews supposedly crashed into a real jet in mid-air a few years ago. |
