The last in the "Airport" series, not counting 1980's "Airplane", which wasnt half as hilarious as this dog! Starring such Hollywood heavyweights as Charo and Jimmy Walker, this movie was a solid clunker at the box office, but thank God that when shown on Network TV, they wisely decided to add almost 20 minutes of additional scenes. The plot concerns the efforts of an evil arms dealer to destroy the Concorde, on its way to Russia for the 1980 Olympics. Some people seem hell-bent on defending this movie, but watching scenes like the pilot shooting a flare gun out the window (while at the speed of sound...And upside down!!) with such dialogue as "They don't call it the Cockpit for nothing, Honey!" makes one cringe. The music score, by Lalo Schifrin, might have been ok, if it wasn't for the fact that it sounds like left-overs from his previous film "The Amityville Horror". The special effects are hit and miss. One sad note concerning this film: The Concorde that crashed in France on July 25th, 2000, was the one used in this film. |
