A FIRE IN THE SKY
(TVM 1978)
Based on a story by "The Poseidon Adventure" author, Paul Gallico. A comet is heading for an area just outside of Phoenix, Arizona. Most think it will burn up in the atmosphere, but a few think otherwise. 2 scientists convince a TV reporter to help spread the word. The FX are very good for the time, and are more impressive than the big screen offering a year later, Meteor. For the crowd/exodus scenes, a record 5,700 extras were employed. First shown on November 26th, 1978. The movie was nominated for 2 Emmys : Sound and Visual Effects. The movie was released on VHS by Columbia  in the mid 1980s.
