When Eastern Airlines Flight 401 took off from New York City on December 29th, 1972, no one onboard could dream that their lives were forever going to be changed and steeped in a still unanswered mystery. The L-1011 was approaching Miami, when "something" happened. The something apparently was a combination of a faulty indicator light and the auto pilot being accidentally turned off. The flight crashed into the Everglades. 175 people were onboard, including 10 Flight Attendents and 3 Flight Officers. 98 people were killed in the crash. Pieces of the airliner were fitted into other jets. Soon reports of ghostly apparitions started occuring on jets using the salvaged pieces. Over 20 incidents were recorded, resulting in a seance, a best selling book, and 2 TV movies. The first movie was "The Ghost of Flight 401" starring Ernest Borgnine, Kim Bassinger and Tina Chen. First shown on NBC February 18th, 1978. The second movie was called "Crash" and starred Eddie Albert, Adrienne Barbeau & William Shatner. First shown on ABC October 29th, 1978. |
