KRAKATOA-EAST OF JAVA
(1967)
On August 27th, 1883 the volcano on the island of Krakatoa exploded, creating a tidal wave that killed 36,000 people and was felt as far away as San Francisco. Taking that story, this is a mediocre film using the real events and spinning it into a treasure hunt tale. The fact that Krakatoa is west of Java should give an indication of how good this movie is. Released May 14th 1969 at 136 minutes, the movie was recut to 101 minutes after a lukewarm reception. Nominated for an Oscar for its pretty decent effects.
