RED SKIES OF MONTANA
(1952)
An exciting, colorful tribute to the Forestry Service and their facilities for fighting fires-with modern communication, helicopters, chemicals, tactics, and courage. The story concerns a veteran firefighter, Cliff Mason (Richard Widmark) who is accused of cowardice by a rookie, Ed Miller (Jeffery Hunter) when the young man loses his father in a forest fire campaign supervised by Cliff Mason. It seems Mason blacked out during the fire, and was the only one to survive. When the young man comes to serve under him, he realizes Cliff is a tough, capable commander. The story is slight, but the color photography of the forests and fire is magnificent. Released in January, 1952.
