Alexander and Ilya Salkinds big screen epic broke box office records world wide when it opened December, 15th, 1978. Sparing no expense and filming all over the world, Director Richard Donner brought the "Man of Steel" to life like never before. With exciting set pieces like Lois Lanes rescue from a crashed helicopter to shoreing up the San Andreas fault, combined with winning performances by newcomer Christopher Reeve as Clark Kent/Superman and Margot Kidder as Lois Lane. Gene Hackman added comic relief as Supermans arch foe, Lex Luthor. Marlon Brando was paid 4 million dollars for his ten minutes of screen time as Supermans Father,Jor El. A much longer version was shown on Network TV, and a longer version was put out on DVD.The movie was followed by 3 sequals with most of the original cast, and a new version is due in 2006. |
